‘Tis the Season for Giving, Book #1: THE GEEK’S GUIDE TO DATING by Eric Smith

By Dawn Frederick

At #TeamRedSofa, we wanted to celebrate the holidays with our followers.  Of course the best way to share our love of books is by hosting a free giveaway through New Year.  Yes, we’re giving some free books away, and all you have to do is participate by making one comment.  🙂

For our first giveaway, it seems appropriate that those who are in search of love and partnership have the opportunity to show off their awesome geek selves during the holidays.  The first giveaway will be THE GEEK’S GUIDE TO DATING.

Our question of the day (by which you can comment to enter to win*) is:

What is your proudest geek moment? Any why?

We can’t wait to see what you have to share!

Cheers,

The Team of Red Sofa

*The winner will need to reside in the U.S. – we will have some titles available anywhere.

My greatest geek moment came the day after my wedding. One of my geeky family members bought us Star Wars Trivial Pursuit as a wedding gift. So my immediate family broke into teams to play the game (which really meant my brand-spanking new husband I played each other with family cheering us on), and I won. Considering he’s an engineer uber-nerd, beating him at a geek game just solidified we were made for each other.

Anna, this is great! I love it, and being the new movie is about to be released, even better!

Many moons ago, my husband and I fell in love with Settlers of Catan after playing with a fellow nerd friend. The problem? We were too poor to buy it. Nerd solution? DIY! We made our own copy of Settlers of Catan from beer coasters, water-designed wrapping paper, playing cards, internet pictures (land types, sheep, brick, etc.), craft pipe cleaners (roads and ships), and little wood pieces that we painted with tempera paint. We used that thing for at least 4 years until we finally got out of school, got jobs, and could afford the real thing. 🙂

Cosplaying Violett Parr from the Incredibles at the St. Louis Comic Con costume contest. Nothing like standing up in front of 3000 people in spandex! I may not have won, but I met some awesome geeks in the process 🙂

I don’t know if this giveaway is still open….. but, my proudest geek moment was buying my daughter some geek t-shirts for back to school. Some kids like wearing brand names. My kids prefer to wear geeky science puns.
