Updates from the Sofa – July 2017

I feel I keep repeating myself in that I never anticipated the type of growth my baby agency would have upon branching out on my own. I assumed I’d be a one-woman operation, doing her little thing here in Minnesota, surrounded by some of the best folks in its literary community.

With every new accomplishment we have, it’s always a bit surreal; exciting and anxiety-driven, all rolled into one. I’m not complaining, if anything it’s me looking back at the early years of the agency and pleasantly surprised at the things we’ve done (and are doing).

As we began our 2017 intern search this spring, I knew it was time to see what we could do for our former intern, Liz Rahn, at Red Sofa. She is able to balance all our different personalities and keep us focused, not an easy task for most.  This is a talent not many people possess, Liz does this naturally and she is a joy to work with!

One of the areas that needed lots of love and attention internally in our agency is subsidiary rights. Specifically the book sold beyond the original publishing contract; the life beyond an actual book, and all the its various formats (audio, film, TV, merch, foreign rights).  I knew immediately the person to consider for this would be Liz.

I’m thrilled to announce that Liz accepted my offer, and she’ll be part of #teamredsofa in a new capacity as our Subsidiary Rights Agent. So make sure to give her a high five, a hug, or a pile of books.  She’s going to do great things and I’m honored to have her in our corner.

Congrats Liz! 🙂
